Clémence Mai offers thoughtfully curated pieces aimed to give the wearer the same effortless and uncomplicated style of the Parisian woman.
The inspiration for the brand stemmed from Clémence Mai founder and designer Margot Penner's experience living in the French capital with her Parisian husband.
With a background in footwear and industrial design and a love for fashion she was intrigued by the local Parisian women, how they dressed and their attitude.
"I found this strength and energy from watching the local women, and could feel this sense of ‘I am who I am and there's no apologising about it’”.
It was empowering, and eventually over time Margot could feel herself emulating this vibe.
“Obviously it's a cultural thing, but I do think it has something to do with the way they dress. They don't take time thinking about making an effort, their style comes from within”.
As an Australian women living in Paris, Margot wanted to feel the way the locals looked. She felt her individual style developing towards an uncomplicated, easability, living in classic pieces with a twist towards local street style.
When moving back to Australia it became obvious to her that there are many differences between the French and the Australian way of living, but enjoying life and feeling good about oneself is a commonality.
“We look up to the French for the way they dress but we also crave a comfortability which is not inherently French”.
The creation of Clémence Mai was made to deliver a brand which oozes a nonchalant Parisian vibe. We design each piece to be easy to wear and modernised with a focus towards feeling comfortable and feminine.
